So web copy is hard to do. Some of you might be experts, but most of us (me especially) are not! We struggle to find a way to make copy that is engaging and innovative; something that people will want to read.
Regina has a wonderful take on how to create successful copy through her step-by-step story telling process. It’s called the ‘Hero’s Journey’, a 12 step method of breaking down ideas into something meaningful which will resonate well with people.
It’s about recognising that people don’t want to be pulverised with your copy, they want to hear a story; something that we’re hardwired to enjoy and crave.
The steps are as follows:
- 1. The Ordinary World
- 2. Call to Adventure
- 3 and 4. Overcoming Fear and Meeting the Mentor
- 5. Crossing the Threshold/Commitment to Change
- 6, 7, 8. Allies, Ordeals and New Conditions
- 9 and 10. Big changes and a New Dedication
- 11 and 12. The Resurrection and Elixir
I’ve never heard anything like this before, and I find it so refreshing!
In this, part 1 of the podcast, we learn about these steps and what they mean. It’s in preparation for the next episode in which Regina explains how this can all be related to web site copy.
