I’m not very good in the real world! Get me away from my little office and my screens and I’m all ‘out-at-sea’! I have to suddenly communicate with people and interact; I cannot click a button and get an expected response from other people. People, unlike code, are just so darn unpredictable. They do what they want and have hidden thoughts and expectations.
If you’ve been building websites for clients for any length of time, you’ll know that your clients can be your best friend and your worse nightmare. They want things they didn’t communicate to you. Even when they do communicate with you, it’s unclear and you’ve no solid idea about what it is that they want. It gets worse, even if you’re certain you know what they want… you deliver it and then they change their minds and want something else. AAAAARRRRRrrrrgggghhhhh! You know this feeling don’t you?
Well Erin Flynn is much better at this than I am, she understand communication and is on today to communicate that knowledge!
It’s all about managing the client from the outset so that you are always ahead of the game. Always keeping them informed so that they are not reaching out to you for answers.
I say that it’s all about that, there’s more to it than that. It’s also about using the correct kind of language so that you are getting the information back from the client that is useful for pushing your WordPress website project towards completion. Thinking about what it is that you really need from the client and how to go about getting that.
Erin has some free courses on offer as well as a more fully featured membership course if this is something that you feel that you could do with a boost on – I know that I could! This is not something that you should ignore, it’s a really interesting and proven way to get new clients and help existing clients to love what you do for them. That’s the goal, right?
There’s one last thing that I’ve linked to down below, and that’s ‘Say What Emails’. This is a whole raft of emails that you can send out to clients for just about any situation that you might face on a day-to-day basis. What to say to get content, what to say when you’ve fallen out, what to say when they want a refund. This list is really, really huge and it also provides you with different options depending on the mood that you’re in and how much you really want the client to know! It’s great, and free.
So, if you need a little help with your communicating and making sure that clients are happy and not sad, go check out the links below.
Thanks for a great episode Erin – it was great fun!
